What applications does Molybdenum have in electronic components?

PURE MOLYBDENUM: It is fabricated into electrical contacts by slicing discs from rods and brazing them to nickel-plated steel backings, which may be in the form of rivets, skroewe, or stampings. In atmospheres of inert gasses or vacuum, molybdenum contacts can handle currents of several amperes. Here it has good resistance to welding and electrical erosion because of its refractory metal characteristics.

MOLYBDENUM-COPPER ALLOYS: Range of Application: Switching contacts for high-voltage and medium-voltage, heat sinks for passive thermal management, electrodes for erosive processing. These composites of molybdenum and copper have many applications in electronic devices. The excellent thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion make them ideal for: chip mounting, hitteputte, circuit board cores, lids or covers, or thermal spreaders.

• Higher recrystallization temperature than pure Mo
• Greater creep resistance than pure Mo
