How is Aluminum Used?
Laser welded covers for Microwave Integrated Circuits and similar devices have been fabricated from 4047 aluminum alloy due to the high silicon content (11.5%) which provides ductile welds with most common aluminum housing alloys. Covers with dimensions of 2” in length and smaller are best fabricated from 4047 aluminum alloy.
We recommend the use of 4032 aluminum alloy for covers larger than 3” because the 4032 alloys has better creep characteristics than 4047 aluminum when material is stressed at temperature above 80 degree C.
4032 Aluminum may be viewed as either a heat treatable type 4047 or a laser weldable type 6061. The 4032 material compositions contain 12.2% silicon to provide welding characteristics. ਇਸਦੇ ਇਲਾਵਾ, magnesium, ਨਿਕਲ, and copper content allow the material to be heat treated to yield strength levels comparable to 6061-T6.
