What is Molybdenum?
Molybdenum is very hard, but softer and more ductile than tungsten. Molybdenum has a high elastic modulus, and only tungsten and tantalum have higher melting points. Molybdenum is used to alloy many specialty steels. Some other common uses for molybdenum are electrodes, furnace applications, nuclear energy and missile and aircraft parts. Molybdenum is a refractory metal that is commonly used as high temperature, corrosion resistant metal that can withstand high stress, high temperature ranges without greatly softening or expanding. Molybdenum has a melting point of 2,623 °C.
Molybdenum is used for its extremely high melting point and relative flexibility. When combined with steel and other metals, the bond gives the material a high resistance to extreme temperatures and chemical corrosion. This property is very useful when working with energy applications, reactive chemicals, high-intensity motors, filaments, industrial molds and more.
